When the Fraud Protection Service Blocks a Web Page

Note: The following applies to users of Virgin Broadband PCguard who have subscribed to the Fraud Protection service.

If you try to browse to a web site known by the Fraud Protection service to be fraudulent, a "Blocked" message will appear within your browser. This message completely replaces any web page content that would have been displayed had the Fraud Protection service been off.

At his point, you should normally:

  • Avoid visiting the web site
  • Delete any emails associated with the URL

However, if you wish, and at your own risk, you can still display the web site identified as fraudulent.

  • If Virgin Broadband PCguard is not configured with a password, you can click the Continue to fraudulent web site button to display the page.
  • If Virgin Broadband PCguard is configured with a password, you must enter the PCguard password before clicking the Continue button.

How does the Fraud Protection service know a web site is fraudulent?

When you instruct your browser to display a web page, the URL of the web page is compared to a list of known fraudulent web site URLs. If a web page is considered fraudulent, the Fraud Protection service displays the "Blocked" page. This database of fraud URLs is stored on remote servers so you are always using the most up-to-date list.

I received a phishing email; why wasn't it blocked?

The Fraud Protection service blocks web pages when you view them through your web browser. It does not stop you from replying to phishing emails.
